Scarce Antique 1860's Victorian Sheer Lace Overbodice With Dramatic Sleeves.
Victorian overbodices were sheer, white or black formal jackets worn over the era's off-shoulder evening gowns. This lovely example in needle-run lace has a delicate sprig pattern on fine tulle, piping at the armscyes and neckline, an organdy waistband and voluminous sleeves that drape gracefully from the wrist. An open-front style, the bodice is in excellent uncleaned antique condition with some breaks in the waistband that only go through the organdy and not through the tulle below, measures 14-inches long with a 36 bust, 26 waist and 26-inch sleeve.
