I have for your consideration an amazing pair of plates bearing the Paroutaud Freres factory underglaze mark 2 (circa 1903). Each plate to this set is signed by the well known and highly regarded master Limoges artist, A. Broussillon (sometimes spelled Bronssillon). There is not a reference book on Limoges that does not dedicate several pages to particular artist. Although there are examples of hand painted fruit and game items, he is best known for his stunning execution of roses, especially those with reflecting water images. Broussillon's pieces are sought after by the Limoges collector and will always increase in value with age.

The plates measure 8" in diameter. Together they would make a marvelous wall display; or paired on a end table or other piece of furniture in lovely gold stands, they would bring a vibrant floral decor to your home. Both plates have a predominant dark green and red background with a splash of a light pale green which almost makes it appear as if the sun in peeking through the leaves. The roses are placed in like color order on each plate, but even a novice eye can tell the subtle differences between the two. The roses have different placement of their petals and the shading and coloring of the pinks, reds and yellows comprising each bloom is unique unto the bloom. Even the shape and coloring of the leaves, as well as their dark centers and opening of each rose is every so slightly different. The one thing they all have in common is their deep, rich, vibrant hues and their profusion of color. There is no doubt that Broussillon hand painted these at the same time, to be a set, and took great care in creating their complimentary decor while at the same time giving each plate its own nuance of individuality. What a marvelous pairing and expert execution! Broussillon completed his masterpieces by framing each with a gold gild band around the plate's edge.

The plates are in excellent condition. I cannot see any wear to the gold nor any instance of paint loss or flake. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, spiders, or flea bites.
