I have for your consideration a fabulous Limoges jardiniere/planter/vase with matching plinth. Both pieces bear the Delinieres Factory (D&Co.) underglaze mark 3 (circa 1894).
The jardiniere/planter/vase measures 9" tall and 8.75" across at the mouth opening. The circumference is an impressive 36.5" at its widest. Sitting on the plinth, the jardiniere soars to a height of 11.5" high.
The jardiniere is decorated with a hand painted floral decor of roses/peonies with different but complimentary colors predominating on either side. On one side, the background porcelain is done in soothing shades of dark to light green. Against this palette, the artist has hand painted frilly blooms in shades of pink with white edges and deep raspberry pink. A splash of amber yellow accentuates one of the flowers and lends a touch of contrast. Olive green and brown foliage surround the roses/peonies. The background porcelain on the other side of the jardiniere/planter/vase is done in warmer tones of brown and cocoa with splashes of soft green. This canvas is decorated with roses/peonies in hues of sun kissed yellow and purple. Here, the tufts of foliage take on a darker green color. All the flowers are embellished with raised brush strokes along their multi tiered petals that create wonderful depth and movement. The mouth rim of the jardiniere is finished with a thine trim of gold gild.
The matching plinth is delightful with its four golden pawed feet. It is done in varying shades of dark green and warms browns and is the perfect accessory on which to present this lovely piece.
The jardiniere is in excellent condition. The colors are warm and inviting. The two varying decors contribute to a greater display capacity. There is a thin line of paint wear around the very bottom of one side where it sits in the plinth. This is oft times common in these old jardinieres. The plinth is in excellent condition with wear to the gold on the top of the pawed feet where the jardiniere rests. Otherwise there is no paint loss on either piece, with no cracks, chips, hairlines or spiders.
