This book is called "Pansy Eyes, A Maid of Japan", the story of a girl from Japan. It was written by Besse Sprague and published in the early 20s as part of a series to be called "Travel Tot Tales." It appears this book was the only one published in the proposed series. The book has a two page linen cloth doll, front and back, which was to be cut out and made. It is EXTREMELY rare to find this book with the doll. Most copies have the doll removed. I have only seen one other copy with the doll present which I bought years ago, and which won a blue ribbon at UFDC. The back of the book has the instructions for making the doll. The inside of the book has an inscription that this was a Christmas gift in 1923 to Doris Armbruster. Ancestry online shows her and the girls who are shown as having given the book as from St. Louis, and Doris was born around 1917. Always a nice touch to connect to the prior owners.
The doll is in exceptional shape and still bound to the book. Several of the book pages are loose, and the book itself is not in the sturdiest shape. I would have to say that over time there is a good chance the pages will become loose, and several have chips or the beginning of tears. Most of the pages are still bound for now, but it should be handled delicately. It is fully complete. The cover is in nice shape but for some corner bumping and age wear. The critical item is the doll, and she is wonderful.
Non smoking home...I will combine shipping wherever possible and as practicable given the nature and fragility of the item.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!
