The unusual combination of design elements lends such charm to this vintage sterling brooch. A graceful bow has a dangle of a simple heart surrounding a Viking ship.
The brooch is signed with the words Sterling and Denmark encircling the artist's initials, COF. Carl Ove Frydensberg established his workshop in Copenhagen shortly after WWII, and the COF hallmark was registered in 1949 and remained active until 1982.
Frydensberg was a highly regarded maker of sterling silver jewelry, and examples of his work are represented in Nancy Schiffer's Silver Jewelry Designs: Evaluating Quality Good*Better*Best, as well as in Fred Rezazadeh's Collectible Silver Jewelry.
The brooch is 1 5/8 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide. It is in excellent condition.
