This is one magnificent opal & diamond halo ring, engagement ring, anniversary ring, right hand ring, circa 1950's, no matter how you choose to wear it. The fabulous broad flashfire of the pattern of the 1.67 carat opal, the way you can see the flash from any direction is highly desirable. The setting of the opal surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds is beautiful, and the scallops of gold outlining the perimeter of the ring, decorated with scallops of black enameling is so well-done! The diamonds weigh 97/100 of a carat. This halo ring is a real statement piece and it could have been a cocktail ring or dinner ring in the 1950's. Its size, the way it sits up 3/8ths of an inch from the finger, the fiery brilliance of the opal and the diamonds make this ring a real treasure! I hope you love it as much as I do!
There is one white opal that is cut in a rectangular cushion shape and is prong set, measuring 10.30mm x 8.80mm, 3.30mm thick, weighing approximately 1.67 carats. The opal has a very bright, multicolored play of color (fire) in a broad flashfire pattern, a medium dome, a very good cut, no inclusions, consistent in its brightness and pattern, and is highly directional, meaning you can see the flash fire from all angles, all directions. Broad flashfire means there are sheets of color usually covering a large section or all of the stone's surface. This is an excellent opal. Surrounding the center stone in a halo setting are 16 prong set round brilliant cut diamonds, measuring 2.60 x 2.50 x 1.53mm, weighing approximately 97/100 of a carat. The color of the diamonds is a bright, white H/I color, SI1-SI2 in clarity, with a good cut. The ring is both stamped & tested 14K yellow gold, meaning it has 58.3% fineness of pure gold. The ring has black enamel accent around the scallops on the top of the ring and on the shoulders.
Notice the three layers to this ring, as it sits up 3/8ths of an inch from the finger. There are half circles of gold underneath the table supporting the scallops, then 1/8th of an inch higher are prongs of gold supporting the diamonds, then 1/8th of an inch higher are 16 prongs of gold supporting the fiery opal. Beautiful! The ring measures 13/16ths of an inch from top to bottom, 3/4 of an inch from east to west. Ring size 6.5, the ring can easily be sized up or down by a good jeweler. The total piece weighs 9.01 grams. It is a substantial ring and you will enjoy wearing it from the moment you put it on your finger!
