What an amazing Victorian ring this is.....its 15.28 carat size, its color, its decorative 18K gold work, its history, its lovely clarity and cut, circa 1880. I would love to know who has cherished it down through the centuries. This lovely amethyst ring has glorious decorative fleur de lis prongs and lovely flowers on the shoulders. The color of the amethyst is a strong, deep purple, combined with its striking size and unusual setting makes this ring a very special treat for your best girlfriend or for yourself!
There is one prong set oval modified brilliant cut amethyst, which measures 20.00 x 14.50 x 9.43mm, weighing approximately 15.28 carats. The amethyst is type II, medium, moderately strong, purple color, eye clean with a very good cut. Circa 1880, this Victorian hand made ring has flowers down the shoulders of the ring, one side with one flower, one side with two, and I'm not sure if that is intentional or if one flower broke off. The amethyst has 16 fleur de lis prongs holding it in place. Notice the beautiful decorative gold work around the basket of the ring. The setting is tested 18K yellow gold, meaning it has 75% fineness of pure gold.
The ring measures 7/8ths of an inch from top to bottom and 5/8ths of an inch from east to west. The ring sits up 5/16ths of an inch from the finger and is ring size 5, which can be easily sized up or down by a good jeweler. The total piece weighs 10.28 grams.
