Love, love, love these amazing antique Victorian Dutch Cannetille earrings. Cannetille in French means "sponged" for how the gold thread is worked. These earrings are so three dimensional with a gorgeous basket of flowers in the centers. The was the style originally in fashion in the countryside of France. It migrated to the Netherlands in the early 19th century and became very popular there. Fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets of gold were made into tendrils, coils, scrolls or spider like rosette ornaments. Floral and shell motifs were very popular. Cannetille work was inspired by the beautiful embroidery done in the Netherlands and Belgium during that period and today. What an amazing pair of historic earrings, perfect for your wedding day or to wear and enjoy every day!
There are two oval discs of gold in the center which have a beautiful basket of flowers centered on each disc.
There are bands of twisted gold surrounding the discs. Beneath the discs are oval bands of gorgeous floral work surrounding the perimeter of each earring. Hanging from the bottom are two dangles of gold measuring 5/16ths of an inch. The earrings are set in tested 14K yellow gold, meaning they have 58.3% fineness of pure gold. The earrings have French wires which are so comfortable to wear. The earrings measure 1 inch from top to bottom 1 3/16ths of an inch fro the top of the wire to the bottom, and 1/2 an inch from east to west.
