This fantastic compact by Elgin American is a tear drop style and features black enamel on the front with a large gold center stripe on the lid with the back of the case being a solid gold color. This style & shape was created for and used at the 1939 Chicago Worlds Fair. The compacts at the fair had a Worlds Fair insignia on the lid. Inside is a mirror in the lid and the base has two covered compartments ... one for rouge and one for loose powder. The original powder puff which reads Elgin American is also included and in very good condition with no use. The rouge pot is full and appears to have never been used and I have been told that the refill instructions are printed right in the pot. There is loose face powder inside the powder compartment. The compact including the interior has a nice patina. The enameling is all in very good condition with no obvious wear. The gold finish has a few small scuffs, not at all noticeable unless you really look for them. Probably came from storage in a drawer. I would grade the compact in excellent vintage condition. Compact measures 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/4" high. We will ship this to you in a gift box. Thank you for looking!
