This great 1920s football team photograph gives us a glimpse into the the early days of the American sport of football. This came from a local estate and I was told the team photograph was from the St. Johns Military School that was located in Salina, Kansas. The school still exists today and was founded in 1887. For over 120 years, the school has been dedicated to the development of young men.
Please note the gentleman on the left in military style hat and coat. The cadet's attire are the same uniform with the exception of the two in the middle, (one seated), they have stripes across their chests. Perhaps they were the quarterbacks. And then, of course, there's the old leather football in the middle with the year 1920 painted on it and the score board in the back. The faces are delightful and detailed, very clear. The photo is signed at the bottom, "Tanner's Studio". The condition is very nice for such an old photo. It looks to have been in a cabinet card studio frame at one time as there is some grey cardboard at the top back. The photo measures 9 1/2" x almost 5 3/4". The picture is in great vintage condition, a wonderful photo for collectors of early sports memorabilia.! Thank you for looking!
