Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a sterling silver Edwardian/Victorian era figural stick pin circa 1910. This stick pin features a yellow gold plated sterling silver bear on a yellow gold plated pin. The bear is textured on the front. Figural stick pins were widely popular in jewelry during the 1860-1900's. The bear is 3/8" tall X 3/4" wide (maximum dimensions). The entire length is 2-3/8" overall. The reverse of the bear is marked "Sterling".

Victorians used everything as symbols. Bears are the personification of strength. They also symbolize the protection of family.

Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal, most often copper or silver, to make silver-gilt. It is done by chemical or electro-chemical plating. Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold, constituting at least 5% of the item's total weight, that is mechanically bonded to a base of either sterling silver or some base metal. The related terms "rolled gold plate" and "gold overlay" may legally be used if the layer of gold constitutes less than 5% of the item's weight.

The silver content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. It is marked "Sterling".There is no wear on this piece. The stem is lightly tarnished.
