Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a Victorian era fashion ring made of 12kt. rosy gold, circa 1870. This unusual ring features a rose cut, marquise shaped, prong set, deep green Tourmaline, 9mm long X 4mm wide, approximately 0.75 carats. The tourmaline is surrounded by 18 natural, bead set, half pearls. The stones are mounted in a decorated band. The band has hand engraving with what appears to be a four leafed clover and additional decoration. The ring is a size 5-1/2 and can be re-sized.

Tourmaline comes in a variety of colors, including blue, pink, green, yellow, pink and orange, among others. Green tourmaline is referred to as "chrome tourmaline". Early explorers to the New World thought tourmaline was emerald. Although tourmaline has been used as a gemstone for centuries, it was confused with other stones.

The Victorians loved symbolism and their jewelry represented hidden meanings. Green tourmaline is frequently a symbol of vitality, abundance, and growth. It promotes creativity, as well as, prosperity and success.

The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The tourmaline and pearls were measured for size using a standard jeweler's caliper. The pearls are assumed to be natural since the piece pre-dates cultured pearls. The stones were not removed from the piece to determine exact carat weight.
