Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering an 18kt. yellow gold modern fashion ring circa 1990. An exquisite bright deep, pigeon blood red natural rubellite tourmaline is the star of this piece. The stone is rectangular cushion cut, faceted and is 8mm X 10mm, or approximately 3.20 carats. The natural stone is prong set with six prongs for a secure fit. This rubellite tourmaline has a bright, rich red color with a touch of fluorescent pink body color. There are a total of 0.75 carats diamond side stones. The side stones are bezel set, round and faceted diamonds and bezel set, tapered baguette shaped diamonds for sparkly accent. It is a size 8-3/8 and can be re-sized.
Rubellite is the red or pink variety of tourmaline. It is the rarest gem of the tourmaline family and is sometimes mistaken for ruby. Most rubellite stones have silken inclusions. Rubellite is mined in Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Myanmar, Nigeria, Russia, and the United States. The most dramatic stones come from Madagascar and Brazil.
The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The ring is marked "18KT". The tourmaline and diamond sizes were calculated using a standard jeweler's caliper. The diamonds were tested using a standard jeweler's diamond tester. The tourmaline was tested using a standard gemstone tester. The stones were not removed from the piece to do physical testing or for weight.
