Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a late Georgian pendant locket brooch combination in 18kt. rich yellow gold c. 1860. This piece features 9 mixed cut faceted, prong and bezel set, Imperial topaz natural gemstones. The 8 spectacular outside ring, oval gemstones are clear and orangy yellow in color overall. The individual stones have various shades on the same theme. They range in size, 4 being 9.8mm X 8.5mm, and 4 being 10.2mm X 8.8mm. (approximate and varied measurements). The central Imperial topaz faceted gemstone is bezel set with rope twist decoration. It is 11.3mm round. The stones are very bright and lively. Each stone's individual color is well saturated. The total stone weight is 19.15 carats. The piece can be worn as a brooch or pendant and there is a locket on the reverse for a small memento. The locket has a tiny hinge and is made of rock crystal. To enhance the topaz, there are 8 prong and bezel set (sometimes called prong and pinched mounted), cream colored, baroque shaped natural pearls of 3.3mm X 2.7mm. Around the outside of the piece, there is applied ball decoration. The reverse of the pendant brooch has a C-clasp. It also has a small fold down bail to be worn as a pendant. The piece is 1-3/8" long. It weighs 12.5 grams.
Imperial topaz has a golden to reddish-orange color. Most of the topaz gemstones today are mined in Brazil. The gemstones in antique pieces were generally mined in Russia in the Ural Mountains during the 19th. century. Originally, topaz was restricted for the use of the Imperial royal family of Russia. The gemstones in this set were probably mined in Russia.

There is no chain included with this piece. There is a certification of the Imperial topaz gemstones which will accompany the piece.
