Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a handmade one-of-a-kind gilded sterling silver natural boulder opal pendant. This piece features a bezel set, pear shaped, free form, cabochon cut large natural Australian opal in Koriot matrix and highlighted by peacock purple and blue fire. The stone is 24.5mm tall X 10.7mm (widest dimension). The stone weighs 15 carats (prox). At the top, there is a bezel set, round, faceted diamond with a total weight of 0.018 carats. The necklace loop is affixed to the top of the pendant. The piece is 1-3/4" tall (north to south) (including the pendant loop) X 5/8" wide (east to west) (maximum dimensions). The piece weighs 5.5 grams.
Koroit Opal is a type of opal has an ironstone base with exquisite patterns and different colors of opal imbedded in the reddish stone. The Koriot Opal field was discovered in 1897. The opals exhibit interesting designs and "pictures" and come in larger sizes.
The silver content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing and was made to be gold plated sterling silver.
