Caroline's jewelry with a Past is offering a 14kt. rich yellow gold Victorian era fringe necklace c. 1880. This necklace is designed as a succession of drops arranged in a fringe style. The drops are graduated in size and placed to achieve the love of a wave. There are 21 "indian club" style drops ranging in size from the largest, 22.5 long to the smallest, 13.2mm long. The chain is an antique flattened cable style. It is 17-1/4" long. The closure is a spring and tubular style and is secure. The piece weighs 12.9 grams.
This style of necklace was popular during the 1860's through the early 1880's. It was based on ancient Hellenistic and other archaeological prototypes. This period gave rise to all the great archaeological digs in Troy, Egypt, Sumeria, Greece, Italy and elsewhere. The jewelry of this era was designed to reflect the style found in the tombs and sites of these explorations.
The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing and found to be 14kt. yellow gold.
