Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a 15kt. yellow gold Victorian necklace with a charming, sophisticated and gentile look circa 1860. This festoon necklace is often called a honeymoon necklace since it was given as a wedding present. The central plaque is 3 florette shapes each centered with a bezel set, round faceted ruby. The rubies are each surrounded by 5 natural pearls. There is a drop from the center of one bezel set, oval ruby that is 5mm X 4mm, about a 0.35 carats. Tying the festoons together are 4 more florette shapes, 2 of them have a bezel set, faceted blue sapphire and the other 2 are rubies. Each plaque is surrounded by 5 natural pearls each. There a total of 35 natural pearls in this necklace. The rubies are bright and "pigeon blood" in color. The necklace has a simple ring chain, is 20" long (could be shortened if desired), has a 1" drop and a spring ring clasp. The piece is in excellent antique condition.
The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The necklace is marked "15ct". The pearls were tested for authenticity. The pearls are deemed to be natural pearls since the piece was produced prior to the production of man made pearls. The rubies and sapphires have been tested using a standard jeweler's gemstone tester. None of the stones have been removed from the mounting to determine size or for physical testing.
