Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a sterling silver bracelet by Los Castillo of Taxco, design #695. This piece is pre-Eagle (before 1948). The design features stylized flowers with a central half dome set with a cabochon cut amethyst and surrounded by curling "leaves" and applied balls along one side of the "domed flower". There are five individual "Flowers" each with a 12mm. round, cabochon cut amethyst stone. The stones are deep purple in color with natural inclusions. Each section is 1-1/2" tall X 15/16" wide (maximum dimensions. The sections are connected by a single ring. The closure is an open loop style. An abstract look, these pieces suggest the influence of Margot de Taxco (Margot van Voorhies Carr). The bracelet is 7" long and is marked "Los Castillo" + "Taxco" + "Sterling" + "Made in Mexico" + "695" (design number). The bracelet weighs 28.1 grams total. There is a safety chain which extends the bracelet 4-1/8".

The Los Castillo workshop was founded in Taxco Mexico in 1939 by the Castillo brothers, Antonio, Coco and Chato, along with Antonio's wife Margot van Voorhies Carr (later Margot de Taxco), and their cousin Salvador Teran. The brothers worked for William Spratling during the 1930's. Margot did a number of the early Los Castillo designs until she left about 1949 to start her own business. Los Castillo is still in business and is the longest continuously operating silversmith in Taxco. Design and craftsmanship have always been a hallmark of the workshop.

The silver content of these pieces has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The bracelet is marked "Sterling".
