Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a sterling silver open hard bangle bracelet by Talleres de los Ballesteros of Taxco and Iguala, Guerrero Mexico circa 1945. The bracelet features a flattened double loop design with intersecting plaques highlighted with balls and wire rope twist and further emphasized with oxidation at the intersections. The paddle shaped end plaques have ribbing, wire rope twist and balls. The bracelet is 7/16" wide (maximum dimensions). The bracelet opening is 6-3/4, but "stretches" for a larger wrist and can accommodate about a 7-1/4" wrist. It weighs 11.1 grams. It has the los Ballesteros "BB" mark + "Talleres de Ballesteros" + "Taxco Gro" + "Hecho en Mexico" + "Mexico" "Sterling" + "925". The piece was made before the Eagle marks were assigned in 1948.

Los Ballesteros was established in 1937 by Jalil Majul Ballesteros in Iguala, Guerrero Mexico. He came from a long line of jewelry makers. His early manufacturing style used filigree; however, around 1941, the shop was moved to Taxco, Guerrero. After this move, Jalil began making pieces which were more in line with the local styles designed for the tourist trade. In the 1950s and before, Los Ballesteros' pieces were produced by smaller family workshops in the Taxco area with Los Ballesteros supplying the designs, materials and tools. The pieces were marked "Talleres de los Ballesteros". After the mid 1960's, the jewelry was no longer produced by family workshops. This piece is reminiscent of the bracelets produced by Maricela and may have been manufactured by them. Los Ballesteros continues to produce items today.

The silver content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The silver is marked "Sterling" + "925" for sterling silver (925/1000 parts silver).

When you own vintage handmade jewelry, you wear a design that is unique and represents the artist's vision. It is made by a skilled craftsman and can have features which are only found in this piece. The jewelry may exhibit the marks of the craftsman. It will not be perfect, nor should it be. The jewelry will show age appropriate tarnish, unless we state otherwise.
