Bernice Goodspeed was an American born anthropologist/archaeologist specializing in the pre-Columbian era when she moved to Mexico City around 1930 to complete her studies. Bernice married Hungarian born artist and sculpture Carl Pappe and they moved to Taxco in 1935. Bernice wrote several books about Mexico, the people and the area. Together, Bernice and Carl opened a studio in Taxco where they displayed their own art, books, silver and jewelry. They also added other artists' works to their gallery. Bernice used archaeological finds from Mexico, Panama, and Central America as her inspiration.

When you own vintage handmade jewelry, you wear a design that is unique and represents the artist's vision. It is made by a skilled craftsman and can have features which are only found in this piece. The jewelry may exhibit the marks of the craftsman. It will not be perfect. This piece has been lightly polished.
