Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering an alluring Art Nouveau amethyst flexible link bracelet in 14kt. yellow gold c. 1890. This piece is exquisitely crafted with 11 oval, medium dark purple, bezel set amethysts. The stones are 5mm X 7mm in size. Each stone is mounted in a bow shaped pierced and openwork plaque. The plaques are connected by rings which give the bracelet flexibility. Each plaque is 15mm X 11mm. The bracelet is 8" overall in length. It has a spring ring closure and a safety chain. The safety chain opens an additional 3" for ease of wear. There is an unidentified maker's mark of "D". The bracelet is American made, probably in Newark, New Jersey.
The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The gold is marked "14kt." The amethyst sizes were calculated using a standard jeweler's caliper. The amethysts were tested using a jeweler's stone tester. The stones were not removed from the piece to do physical testing or for weight.
