Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a sterling silver handmade brooch by Maxwell Chayat c. 1955. This interesting piece has carved, stacked and layered shapes giving it a deep, dimensional look. The brooch is 2" long X 5/8" wide (maximum dimensions). The piece has a secure closure. It weighs 7.7 grams. The back is marked "Chayat" + "Sterling".

Maxwell Chayat (1909 - 1982) was born in Paris. He came to the United States as a child during World War I. He graduated from Columbia University. He is primarily known for his sculpture. A large portion of his work is in private collections. His pieces represent a strong Jewish influence and modernist design elements.

The silver content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The silver is marked "Sterling".
