Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a 14kt. yellow gold demi-parure (suite) by S. McTeigue Design Jewelers circa 1960 consisting of brooch and earrings. This set features a classic swirl pattern brooch. There are three "folded" and ribbed swirls around a central point. The look is very three dimensional and quintessential of the 1960's. The back of the brooch features fur clip fixturing which makes the brooch very secure and stable. It is 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" in size. The earrings have the same swirl type pattern and feature 2 "folded" and ribbed longitudinal swirls emanating from a central point. They are 1" X 3/4" and have a clip back with a special fixture to keep them secure on the ears. The set is marked "S-McT" in a cartouche + 14kt. and weighs 22.3 grams.
The gold content of this piece has been tested using standard accepted testing methods, such as acid testing. The gold is marked "14kt."
S. McTeigue was active during the 1960 time period and was the "Jeweler's Jeweler", a "behind the scenes" force. He designed for Tiffany and Co., Black, Starr and Frost, Shreve, Crump and Low and various other high end retailers of this era. A very similar design can be seen in Tiffany goods from the 1960's, indicating McTeigue designed and produced these same pieces for Tiffany & Company.
