Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a mid-century modern brooch and earrings demi parure in yellow guilloche enamel on sterling silver, circa 1970. The engine turning under the enamel is wonderfully executed. This set is in a classic design by Karin Pedersen for Jemax, a Danish jewelry manufacturer of the 1950's-1980's. The earrings have a clip back typical of the 1950's period and are "comma" shaped. The brooch has a safety clasp and is 2-3/8" long x 1-1/2". It is in a "teardrop" shape outlined with silver and "tied" together with silver rods . The set is lightly gilded (or vermeil) with some loss of gilding to the reverse of the brooch (as shown). The enamel is in excellent condition on both pieces with no chipping, cracking or damage.

Engine turning is a geometric pattern inscribed onto metal. When applied under transparent enamel, the intricacy of the metal becomes part of the design. This technique is called "guilloche" or "guilloche enamel".

The set is marked "Sterling".
