This shipwreck artifact is an antique spoon with a wide bowl, fat handle, and rat tail. The hefty metal spoon is heavily encrusted leaving the finish bubbly in appearance.
Age is unknown.
I don't know where this relic was originally found but the collector that I bought it from was passionate about shipwreck artifacts. He had an impressive collection that included pieces of pottery, tools, bottles, coins, and a large selection of items with certificates of authenticity from booty discovered by Bert Kilbride, known as the “last pirate of the Caribbean.”
Measurements: 7-1/4” long x 1-13/16” wide across the bowl (18.4cm x 4.6cm)
Weight: a nice weighty piece at 81.0 grams
It appears unmarked because of the patina. It has not been acid tested as that would damage the surface of the spoon.
Condition: bends in the bowl and to the handle, it has been rinsed off with fresh water but not scrubbed or polished.
