This vintage Soviet era Russian lacquer box features a hand painted scene of a deer hunt. To left of the image is a trio of men on horses. At the center is a herd of 5 deer running toward 2 men hidden in the bushes. At the top is the title “Oxota” in Cyrillic or Okhota in our Latin based script which literally translates as “hunting”.
Fine gold lacquer details appear around the main image as well as around the bottom edges of the box sides. Interior is classic red lacquer.
The lid is signed along the lower edge.
The seller gave me a note that states the box was made in Mstera and was purchased in the Russian town of Suzdal in December 1990.
