This antique vesta or match safe, beautifully crafted in sterling silver by the English firm of Deakin & Francis, features highly detailed hand engraving on both the front and the back. At the center of the florid rococo engraving is an ornate monogram, perhaps DMS or DML, and the date 16 July 1911.
Attached to the side is a ring, making the vesta wearable as a pendant or fob.
It is hallmarked along the inner edge with the maker's mark for Deakin & Francis, the Birmingham anchor, the sterling lion passant, and the date letter for 1905. The case was created before the cartouche was engraved.
Dimensions: the case is almost square at 2" high x 1-7/8" wide excluding the bail and loose jump ring. It is quite thick at 1/2".
Weight: nice weight of 31.7 grams
