Virgin Mary Hand Carved Religious Folk Art Statue
This very interesting carving is coming from the Alp region. It is made of lime tree and dated to the 19th Century.
The carving depicts our Lady of Rosary, the praying Virgin with rosary. It is a well done folk art carving. The Virgin is very impressive due her painful and austere features. The clothes are very detailed carved, the folding of her cape masterly done.
The base pedestal is a contrast to the austere carving, lovely hand carved roses are adorning it.
The statue was in the past painted, the painting is exfoliated, the remains probably removed. The carving is now waxed and polished. The base shows some traces of the polychrome painting.
The condition is very good, some age cracks, a part of the rosary is missing and old worm holes (further resident not active); one hand is restored.
The carving can stay or be hanged to the wall.
Measurements: 21.6 inches in height.
