Antique Reliquary Virgin Mary with Child

This is a nice convent work made by nuns in the second half of the 19th Century.

It depicts Virgin Mary holding Baby Jesus on the right arm. Many years ago, a nun told me that this kind of depiction (Baby on the right arm) is considerate as to do miracles.

The reliquary shows to the middle a lovely colored engraving of Virgin Mary. She is sitting on a magnificently throne and wears beautiful folded white clothes and a superb crown. Baby Jesus wears a lovely skirt.
The Virgin is holding a cross-bearing orb in her right hand. A quite unusual depiction as the Orb is in the iconography reserved for Jesus (Salvator Mundi).
To their feet three lovely winged putties.

This very mellow depiction is surrounded by gold wire trim and has as back ground a beautiful red faded velvet. Here and there discolored, but so charming. Original.

The reliquary is protected by old glass; the edges of the show case are adorned with gilt trim.

The back side is covered by white board with printed crosses.

The condition is very good; some age traces are and a small imperfect to the lower area present.

The reliquary measures 4.2 x 5.8 inches.
