Stunning German Stoneware Flagon Handmade about 1850
This superb old German Westerwald pewter-mounted flagon has a pleasant baluster form. Blue & grey decorated salt glazed stoneware. Incised decoration on the body, cobalt blue enameled. These folk art motifs include a bird, flowers, leaves and geometric motifs (complex spiral twists and simple bands and columns). Beautiful original pewter lid with ball finial.
This kind of flagon was used in the past for beer. Now they are coveted decoration objects, rare to find in this quality.
Very good condition, a fine hair on the mouth rim, normal wear traces. Inside some dirt.
