19th Century Way Hand Carved Cross Shrine Jesus Porcelain Plaque

This shrine has the shape of a way cross, the German name is a Bildstock or Materl – terms for a free-standing icon. Materl are often located near roads, pathways or pilgrim routes. Such icons are common in Switzerland, Austria and Southern Germany.

The shrine shows a small porcelain plaque depicting Jesus with the thorns crown. A good transfer print with vibrant colors. The porcelain painting is protected by an open work door, lovely done.

The condition is very good, the small cross to the roof is missing, two or three unimportant chips . The miniature is intact.
The shrine measures 8.2 inches in height.
