19th Century Hand Colored Copperplate Engraving Parrot Cockatoo

Excellent hand colored etching depicting an exotic bird.

The red parrot is identified as “Le Kakatoes à huppe rouge” = “ the cockatoo with red tuft” and signed in the left corner Martinet - François Nicolas Martinet , (French, born circa 1725-died circa 1804). He illustrated “Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux” by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Count de Buffon about 1790, a master work! .

Etching on hand made paper, the condition is very good commensurate with the age, yellowish and some spots, crinkled edges. Strong spots to the paper edges, but they will be easily covered by a frame or passe-partout.
