Beautiful Old Hand Painted Desk Set Papier Mache Mother of Pearl Inlays
This papier mache desk set is dated to the middle of the 19th Century and comes from France.
This beautiful desk set is not perfect but enchanting just as it is.
The base has a very pleasant scalloped shape; it is made of papier mache. It is a very solid plaque with superb painted golden ornaments to the edges and 4 lovely bun feet. The large pen rest shows exquisite mother or pearl inlays depicting flowers; leafs and steams are hand painted. Some whispered forgot-me-not, hand painted, are increasing the charm of this set.
Small MOP pieces are adorning the edges of the desk set, some are missing.
Between the two crystal ink receptacles again a beautiful mother of pearl marquetry with hand painted steams and leafs.
The hand painting shows some wear. The large mother of pearl inlays are good preserved, a fine crack and a missing part on one leave to report. Small MOP pieces
