Here for your consideration is this beautiful patriotic British Lion of Victory brooch made by the Trifari Company beginning in 1941. This lovely brooch is made of heavily rhodium plated base metal with baguettes and rhinestones. This pin is the rare miniature size, British Lion of Victory brooch, Trifari made a larger size of the British Lion and they also made two sizes of the American Eagle of Victory pin. The miniature sizes are harder to find, the smaller size measures approximately 7/8 inch by ½ inch. The pin is in very nice condition with age appropriate wear as you can view in the pictures. The pin celebrates the Victory of the British in the Battle of Britain in 1940 between England and Germany where the substantially outnumbered the British Air Force ran a successful campaign over the German forces. The brooch is hallmarked on the reverse Trifari and patent pending, the pinback works as it should. This Trifari brooch’s patent number is 129440 and its larger version is referenced in Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2 page 240. Trifari was one of the largest and best manufacturers of costume jewelry in the U.S. in the golden age of the 1930s-1960s. Alfred Philippe was the chief designer who brought his background in fine jewelry to Trifari in the 1930s, creating a sophisticated, high-end look for the company that was its signature for decades.
