Very rare signed Hobe find this large whimsical frog is in very good condition. Has some very slight color variation. Features diamond cut and raised texture work on the head and crossed back legs. The frog is posing as if he is thinking something through, with his arms crossed and one hand under it's chin. The belly portion is done in a wire cage. Extraordinary craftsmanship on this complicated and delightful design. Has depth and dimension if it spins the wire cage creates a spiral effect. Calling it gold tone because I could not find a metal mark. It does appear to be at the least vermeil over silver plating. Marked Hobe under the frogs fanny. Comes with a gold tone lovely textured oval link Chain.
Measures on frog 3 1/8'L. 2 3/4'W. Chain is 23'L.
Hobe jewelry founded by William Hobe in 1927 was created at the request of Florence Ziegfield for the Ziegfield Follies. Hobe advertisements claimed the jewelry utilized high quality material, wire settings, hand set stones and some were plated with sterling silver, platinum and gold. Some designs used semi precious stones. Movie makers and stars favored Hobe jewelry during the 1950's for it's elegance and look of royalty. This Hobe mark dates the rare frog some where between 1958 and 1983
