This is a beautiful segmented pendant cross crafted in silver and adorned with old-cut diamonds. A three-part pendant, the top carries a floral and leaf motif (a hint of gold overlay) amongst openwork scrolls, adorned with a small cone-set rose cut diamond that appears to be foil-backed. It suspends a similarly decorated articulated cruciform with a central cone-set rose cut diamond and three cone-set table cut diamonds, each separated by a floral motif; the bottom a pear-shaped cone-set rose cut diamond drop. All six diamonds are set in slightly convex closed-back settings. Two loops on the reverse indicates that this piece would have been worn on a velvet ribbon. Soldered jump rings with a new 17 ½" sterling silver chain were added by my jeweler to wear as a necklace. If you prefer a different size chain or no chain at all; these can be easily modified by your jeweler. Unmarked, these pieces are referenced as either a Flemish butterfly cross (croix papillon) or a Normandy cross (croix Saint-Lo); both quite like those found in the south of Belgium and common in the south of France. The top segment measures 1 ¾" wide x ¾ high; middle = 1 ¼" at its widest x 7/8" high; bottom = ½" at its widest x ¾" high; total height = 2 ½"; weight = 16.26 grams. It is in very good condition; light wear commensurate with age; circa 1800.
