This Vintage J Hamilton American Bronze Sculpture Titled "Doc" Signed and initialed and numbered 3/6 "92 is almost impossible to find. I hate to use the term RARE but this particular sculpture being #3 of 6 would qualify for that designation. This Patina-ted bronze stands 6" high without base and is 6 ¾" with the base. Since you will not find another like this you will have to compare with more numerous production pieces. Hamilton, who passed away in 2000 at age 80, was a premiere sculptor of western themes. His talent and skill are reflected in well-known pieces of public sculpture such as the Spirit Rider figure on the Oklahoma State University campus (STILLWATER - The approval Friday of a 19-foot-high, $250,000 "Spirit Rider" sculpture for the Oklahoma State University. Twenty-two replicas at one-fifth size have been commissioned, and will sell for $35,000 each, and 1,000 replicas have been commissioned at one-10th size, selling for $3,500 each.) He also did a bronze statue of a Longhorn at the University of Texas at Austin. A.J. Hamilton explained her father was a self-taught artist who began his sculpture work at age 47. He built a national following and went on to create more than 170 works of sculpture.
