This Kittinger Company, Inc., 8-Inch Terrestrial Table Globe with turned mahogany Georgian style stand is in very good condition. The ring has been professionally repaired. If you are a collector this is one that is hard to find and especially in condition as good as this one is in. Measures 15 ½” high; 12 inches diameter overall- in the turned mahogany pedestal stand it measures 17 ½” high; 12 inches diameter overall; 10 inch wide base
The globe is mounted by a metal hour ring within a calibrated full metal meridian -rotating in a meridian fork, has a circular horizon band with paper calendar and zodiac. The beautiful stand is the style of English Georgian globes of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Countries and states are in shades of yellow, green, orange and tan with darker outlines. Oceans are greenish blue and ocean currents are indicated by light yellow wavy lines. To date this globe to the time period between 1927-1930 I used the following:
This globe shows present-day St. Petersburg, Russia, as "Leningrad;" therefore, it was made after 1924. Further, it shows Constantinople rather than Istanbul, indicating a date of manufacture before 1930. It also has Prussia instead of Iran which dates it prior to 1935. In addition, it shows Central Australia as a separate territory, limiting its period from 1927 to 1931.
The stand was made by Kittinger Company, one of the leading American furniture makers of the 20th Century. As such, the stand is of an unusually high quality for a table globe of this period and probably was intended for home use. Kittinger sold and marketed the globe as a whole, with their over label on the cartouche. It has a brass plate on the bottom of the globe with the Kittinger name on it. Particulars on the globe:
