Vintage 1988 New Orleans Mardi Gras doubloons. This collection of two (2) doubloons feature the celebration of twenty years of Bacchus (1968-1988). Bacchus during the rise of Rome was the god of agriculture and wine. He was also known as the god of fertility, revelry and drama. This vintage coinage features on the obverse side an embossed figure of Bacchus celebrating with a drink from a chalice. On the reverse side is a replication of his image in different poses. The idea of using different metals to manufacture doubloons celebrating Mardi Gras began in 1960 by the Krewe Of Rex. These coins are made of aluminum. All coins are in excellent condition with no holes, dents, scratches or discoloration. Each coin is 1 ½” in diameter ⅛” thick.
