Vintage pressed steel friction toy airplane. The toy industry moved away from using cast iron to pressed steel for its toy manufacturing material in the early 1900’s due to its superior strength, its malleable characteristics and less likely to crack or rust. This vintage pressed steel toy airplane is in fair condition with no dents, holes or rust. Most of the original shiny finish has worn away giving this its original pressed steel patina. The friction mechanism of the airplane is still in good working condition and the airplane measures 5 ⅜” long, 5 ⅞” wide and 1 ⅝” high.
