Vintage 1986 Texas Commemorative Budweiser paper beer coaster commemorating Texas Independence 1886-1986. The history of the paper beer coaster dates back to the 1880’s in Germany and was known as a “bierdeckel”. This iteration of a beer coaster was invented as a cheap way to protect the beer. The “bierdeckel” was placed on top of the beer stein as a way of protecting your beer from insects. The working class man needed a cheaper alternative than having a stein with a lid. Eventually over time, the coaster was placed on the bottom of the glass to protect the table. As the product spread, so did the advertising that was placed on the “bierdeckel”. The beer coaster as we know it, is just cheap pressed paper. Offered here is a stack of unused beer coasters in the original packaging with the Budweiser name and commemoration of Texas 100 year birthday.
