This adorable pair of 19th Century engravings, (Left) 'Caught in a Shower' by B. Frere, and(Right)'The Spring of Life' by G.B. Goddard, are two fabulous examples of 19th century English life. Both pieces were **engraved expressly for Peterson's Magazine, a high-profile magazine back in the day, and are a really special little combination showing two wonderful aspects of children's life of that period. They are in very good antique condition and are ready to be framed or left as is. What a lovely addition to a child's room or any room for that matter, and would make a fabulous gift also!
**The Illman Brothers, Edward and George, were prominent engravers in Philadelphia during the 1800s. Steel engraving was introduced around 1823, replacing the soft copper engravers that could not withstand numerous printings, hence losing detail to the print. During the latter part of the 19th century, colored engravings were introduced.
