This extremely luscious hand-painted scarab-like porcelain brooch from the 1920's is small in size but huge in design. Its intricate patterns of rich deep blues and claret with touches of light blue, green and white enhance the exquisite gold leafing that makes this piece so unique. It also reminds me of stained glass or an oriental rug, with so much pattern on such a small piece. It was a fashion trend during that time for young girls to paint pins of their own designs and make them their own, and 1.0 inches wide, with a solid brass backing with a typical "C" closure of the period.
