Victorian charm at it's best-this is an antique figural silver plate napkin ring featuring a startled mother bird protecting her nest from two hungry foxes. The level of detail in this piece is especially fine. The plumage of the mother bird is in high relief as is the fur of the foxes and their respective facial expressions. You can even see the little eggs in the bird's nest. This napkin ring has an oval shaped based with scalloped border. The base from which the foxes are leaping has intricate lattice work with foliage and flowers in relief. The base is supported by four little round feet.
The piece has a touchmark on the base of Wilcox Silver Plate Co., Meriden Quadruple plate. The pattern number is #01534 and dates to late Victorian period 1880-1890.
The napkin ring is 4" long X 2 1/4" wide X 3" tall. The ring itself is 1 1/4" in diameter. It is in very fine antique condition. It has not been personalized or engraved.
