Vintage 1920's - 30's Japanese art deco vases inspired by the wares coming out of Holland. As early as 1919 the newspapers of the time were commenting on the fact Japanese companies were creating wares in imitation of Gouda. This pair of strap handled vases have similar but not identical decorations. The glaze combinations on each have black bases with stylized floral decoration in shades of green, blue, olive, brown, white and sienna. Both stand 9 cm ( 3 5/8")and are marked on the base Made in Japan.
The last picture shows a tiny glaze pop on one of the arms, otherwise there are no chips, cracks or repairs.
