Offered for sale: From the Italian tourist trade in the 1920s-1930s comes this multiple color shell cameo of Zeus set in a Silver over brass Filigree pendant setting.
This cameo is a good example of cameos made for the the tourist trade in the 1920s-1930s. The pendant measures 1 3/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The shell cameo is set in a Silver over brass filigree setting which is quite common in the 1920s-1930s time frame. The carving is detailed with the marks from the carving tool leaving a distinct pattern on the cameo which I think suits the subject of the cameo, Zeus in his war helmet. The cameo has 3 different shell colors as the carver utilizes the different layers of the shell to highlight different areas of the cameo.
There are no marks on the cameo. The setting uses an o-ring to attach the pendant to a chain. A bale can easily be added to make the setting have a more finished look.
