Offered for sale: 2 1/8 by 1 3/4 inches broach of a scenic shell cameo in gold filled frame with twisted wire decoration.
This shell cameo has a lot of intricate details. The cameo might be a variation of 'Rebecca at the Well' but I can not be sure. The cameo shows a woman standing in front of an open doorway of her 2 story house which is shaded by a tree, has a fence around it and in the background is what looks like a barn. The carver used the white layer of the shell to show all of the intricate details such as the bricks on the wall, the boards of the fence, leaves on a tree and decoration on the woman's dress.
The cameo is bezel set in a gold filled setting with twisted wire decoration around the outside edge. If you look closely you can see that on the bottom left of the oval cameo, there is a slight opening between the cameo and the setting. I can not tell if it is original or not. The cameo has been dated by the frame which has the standard Victorian C-clasp. The pin looks a little short so it might be a replacement.
