Offered for sale: Egyptian Revival brooch in 800 silver with a blue glass scarab, purple plique-a-jour wings and 2 snakes one on each side of the scarab decorated with lavender guilloche enamel.
The brooch is 2 1/2 inches wide with a maximum width of 1/2 inch. The brooch is 800 silver which is marked on the back of the brooch. The brooch consists of a glass scarab in medium blue with black accents mounted in a bezel setting surrounded by twisted wire decoration.
On each side of the scarab there is a silver snake covered in lavender Guilloche enamel ( Note: The enamel on one of the snakes has some enamel missing). On the top of the brooch where the snake's heads are resting appears to be Cloisonne enamel with the metal forming circular patterns.
On either side of the snakes are wings done in purple shading dark ( on the bottom ) to light (on the top ) plique-a-jour enamel. The plique is in fairly good condition. There appears to be one small blemish on the front of the left wing.
The brooch has a pin and C-clasp on the back. The back of the brooch is marked '800' for 800 silver and with a maker's mark which I can not quite read. At one time the brooch may have had a gold wash over the silver.
