The symbol of the snake is one of the oldest in human mythology. It appears over and over again in art and literature from the beginning of time. Ancient Egyptians used serpents in jewelry over three thousand years ago. It has been used as a symbol of guardianship, of vengeance, of renewal, and even everlasting love.
This wonderfully expressive snake ring was made in Chester, England in 1916. The ring is set with a sparkling deep red Garnet, another symbol of love everlasting. The gem is a rhodolite stone that is 5.5x4.5 mm. This ring is fully hallmarked as made in Chester in 1916 by the firm ’T&S’, the ring is marked both ‘9’ and ‘.375’ for the 9 karat gold content. This large and manly ring is a size 10.5, it measures 11.1 mm wide and sits 4.4 mm off the finger at the highest point, narrows to 8.9 mm wide at the back of the band. This ring weighs 8.5 grams.
