I do tend to go in for the unusual. I suppose that's part of what antiques are all about, finding that rare gem, that jewel that's unlike anything you've seen before. So, of course I fell madly and deeply for this unexpected and incredibly beautiful specimen of a ring!
Completely handcrafted in 18 karat gold (it's unmarked, but I've tested it), this magnificent ring is set with 21 Old European cut diamonds and 2 rose cuts. The diamonds start with the center stone being the largest (at about .25 carats) and then taper out in all directions, getting smaller as they reach the edges. The diamonds are only part of this impressive ring though, equally as astounding is the basket weave patterned cobalt blue enamel criss-crossing the top of this extraordinary ring. The jeweler has gone the extra mile to hand engrave a pattern underneath the enamel to emulate the look of a ribbon. Just to top it off, the shoulders feature blue enamel fleur-de-lis. This ring is unmarked, but if I was a betting girl, I'd put my money on it having been made in France, which is where I found it, at a friends shop in Paris. It was likely made around 1900, it is a size 5.25 and I'd have to discuss sizing with my jeweler, so if you're curious about having it sized to suit you, just send me a message with your size of choice and I'll see what I can find out. The ring weighs 10.2 grams and contains a total of about 1.5 carats in diamonds.
This ring is truly a conversation starter, it simply catches the eye and refuses to let go! Exceptional.
